2025 VinFast VF8 Review: Is This Vietnam's Comeback?
The journey of the VinFast VF8 in the U.S. has been anything but smooth. From a rocky global press launch in Vietnam to "half-baked" early reviews in 2023, the brand has faced an uphill battle. However, for 2025, VinFast has introduced more refinement and aggressive pricing to prove they belong on your shortlist. But how does it hold up in the real world?
The 2025 VinFast VF8 is a dual-motor AWD powerhouse delivering 402 hp and weighing in at 5,555 lbs. While the driving experience has improved significantly since the pre-production models, the real story is in the value, considering VinFast's current incentives. The VF8 is available in two distinct trims: the Eco and the Plus.
Trim Comparison: VF8 Eco vs. VF8 Plus
VF8 Eco ($37,000)
Range: 256 Miles (EPA).
0–60 mph: 6.0 Seconds.
Wheels: 19-inch.
Seating: Heated front seats.
Audio: 8-speaker system.
Tech: Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
VF8 Plus ($42,000)
Range: 235 Miles (EPA).
0–60 mph: 5.4 Seconds.
Wheels: 20-inch.
Seating: Heated & Ventilated front and rear seats.
Audio: 10-speaker system with Subwoofer.
Tech: Heads-Up Display (HUD) and Panoramic Sunroof.
The cabin is pretty decent, featuring Wireless Apple CarPlay®, a 10-speaker sound system featuring a subwoofer, and Camp Mode. For those asking, the Plus trim specifically includes ventilated seats for both front and rear passengers—a premium feature at this price point. Storage is disappointing with just 13.2 cubic feet in the rear. On the upside, there is a 2.7-cubic-foot front trunk (frunk).
The VF8 utilizes a 90-kWh battery (87.7-kWh usable) on a 400V architecture. It supports a 150-kW peak DC fast charge rate, allowing for a 10% to 70% charge in approximately 31 minutes. We anticipate the standardized 10 to 80% time would take in the high 30-minute range.
With a 10-year warranty and a price that finally matches the hardware, the VF8 is somewhat of a legitimate contender, especially if you're coming from an older internal combustion engine car. However, if you have experience driving more refined EVs like a Tesla Model Y, you'll probably leave disappointed.
