2026 Subaru Trailseeker Review: Subaru's Most Compelling Choice Yet

May 5, 2026

2026 Subaru Trailseeker Review: The Best Modern Subaru?

Just a year ago, Subaru’s EV game was about as exciting as drinking a lukewarm kale smoothie while watching that boring scene in Avatar: The Way Of Water where they explain how alien photosynthesis works. The original Solterra was a late entry that was too expensive and lagged behind the competition with just 228 miles of range. It wasn’t exactly a Tesla rival.

But Subaru listened. For 2026, the brand has done more than just improve the Solterra—they’ve launched an entire family of EVs, including the compact Uncharted and the heavy hitter we’re looking at today: the Trailseeker.

Big Power, Small Weight

Measuring in at 190.8 inches long, the Trailseeker is nearly identical in size to a Chevrolet Equinox EV. However, it manages to feel like an upright SUV. It sits high with 8.5 inches of ground clearance and features the rugged plastic cladding, 6-pixel LED headlights, and heavy-duty roof rails that fans of the brand expect.

Unlike many electric SUVs that are pushing 5,000 pounds, the Trailseeker weighs in at a somewhat respectable 4,475 lbs. That lower mass, combined with a standard dual-motor setup pushing 375 horsepower, allows this “adventure wagon” to sprint from zero to sixty in just 4.4 seconds. It isn’t just a capable crossover; it’s officially the quickest production Subaru ever built.

True Utility

The Trailseeker earns its name by being the first Subaru EV with real-world towing capacity. Every trim comes rated to pull 3,500 pounds and includes Subaru’s off-road X-Mode.

Inside, the utility continues. You get 31.3 cubic feet of space behind the second row. If you fold the seats flat, that expands to 74 cubic feet—providing a substantial storage upgrade over the smaller Solterra.

Trims, Range, and Charging

Every Trailseeker is powered by a 74.7kWh battery pack and comes standard with a native Tesla NACS port, giving you access to the Supercharger network without an adapter.

2026 Subaru Trailseeker Premium — $41,445

Range: 281 Miles

Drivetrain: AWD (375 hp)

Key Features: 14" Screen, EyeSight (Traffic Jam Assist + Auto Lane Changes), StarTex Seats, 18" Wheels, Dual Wireless Chargers.

2026 Subaru Trailseeker Limited — $45,445

Range: 274 Miles

Drivetrain: AWD (375 hp)

Key Features: 20" Wheels, Harman Kardon Audio, Panoramic View Monitor, 1500W Power Outlet.

2026 Subaru Trailseeker Touring — $48,005

Range: 274 Miles

Drivetrain: AWD (375 hp)

Key Features: Panoramic Glass Roof, Ventilated Seats, Radiant Leg Heaters, Digital Rearview Mirror.

The Verdict

Subaru has finally moved past the “lukewarm smoothie” phase of electrification. With a sub-$42,000 starting price, class-leading ground clearance, and a massive power jump, the 2026 Trailseeker is equally a competitive EV and the best modern Subaru.
