Fifteen years ago, securing 1,000 horsepower required a multi-million-dollar hypercar. Today, American EV engineering delivers even crazier power figures in practical, four-door sedans.

The Tesla Model S Plaid launched the 1,000-hp family sedan era in 2021 with enough seat room for 5/14ths of Elon Musk's direct descendants. The Lucid Air Sapphire arrived in late 2023 specifically to edge out the Plaid on every performance metric—though it costs an arm, a leg, and a non-vital internal organ.
